While we all watching hockey, they were playing golf

Congrats to Hunter Mahan. I didn't see one swing yesterday. Anybody have a recap? Lefty?

Saw the rerun on TGC. Couldn't sleep last night, still reeling from the hockey match, so I caught some minutes of the final group.

Hunter Mahan won.

Rick Fowler looks like the American version of Rory McIlroy.
I am making it official - NEXT YEAR, I BREAK THE 20 HANDICAP BARRIER!!!

Recap is on my blog.

Mahan stayed in the hunt for three days, made his move yesterday. Bogey-free round of 65. Well played.

Rickie Fowler had this tournament coming down the stretch, was trailing Mahan by only one shot. He decided to lay up on the par5 15th, from only 225 out. From 95 yards he would fail to hit the green, settling for par. Huge miscue. Makes par on the stadium hole 16th. Hole 17, he decides he's gonna give the green a go. Stupid move... risk/reward is not there. Misses wide right, impossible sidehill lie, but somehow hits this great shot to within about 12 feet or so. Comes up short on the birdie try. Par. On the 18th, he has about 25 feet for birdie, gives it a good run, but misses. He finished solo second.

I don't understand the change in strategy on the 15th. He's an aggressive player. That's his strategy. Had he gone for the green in two, there most likely would've been a playoff. But the kid is for real. Comparing him to Rory McIlroy is a pretty apt comparison, Mick. Very similar players. Fowler will be around on Sunday in some tournaments this season.

Y.E. Yang found himself right in the middle of things as well... he shot -1 on the front, then made the turn and eagled the 10th, parred the 11th, birdies the 12th, birdies the 13th, birdies the 14th, birdies the 15th, pars the 16th. He's right there... on fire. But on the short, driveable par4 17th, his hopes would end. He went for the green, and pull-hooked his tee shot into the lake. Done. Made bogey, finished with par on 18. Solo third.

Snedeker... my goodness. Anyone wanna guess how much money he spent in 5 hours yesterday? Brandt went to bed Saturday night with a share of the lead. On Sunday, he went out in 37, and he played the last three holes at +5. He shot the highest round of the day on Sunday with a 78. Talk about imploding. Talk about kissing half a mil easily, probably more, goodbye. WOW. Major nosedive.

Couples and Lehman... two old farts, finished the tournament -10 and tied with a slew of others at 14th place.

Great tournament.

Alas, the blog has become my home away from home, so to speak. It's taking a lot more time to put together than I had imagined it would.

Thanks!

Nutty... I'm gonna be working more than playing this season by the looks of things. I'll be looking at weekend play as the only source of getting out this season. So in that regard, the blog will not eat away at what little time out on the links I will have, you can rest assured of that. :|

I always say this at the start of every season, and something always changes. I'm still gonna get out, but a majority of my play will most likely be on the weekends this season. I plan on doing a whole lot more range practice this season than playing.
